Want to enjoy some hot fun in the winter time?

Due to COVID restrictions in 2021, we made the decision to move our Sanibel Retreat to 2022. We are very excited to announce new dates for our Fur Peace Ranch On The Road winter getaway!

Find yourself relaxing on white sandy shell-strewn beaches while being caressed by the warm Gulf breeze; immerse yourself in non-peril instruction from Jorma Kaukonen to warm your fingers and soul. Did we just say “Gulf breeze”? Yes, that is right! This year, we are excited to announce that Fur Peace Ranch On The Road goes East Coast! Grab your bag and guitar and join us on the Gulf Coast of sunny, warm Florida for an exceptional experience at the Sundial Beach Resort and Spa!

Sundial Beach Resort and Spa on Sanibel Island, a barrier island located off of the coast from Fort Myers, FL, will be our “Fur Peace away from Fur Peace” for two weeks beginning at the end of January. Sundial Beach Resort and Spa was recently awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence – which recognizes Sundial Beach Resort and Spa as a property that consistently receives strong praise and high ratings from travelers and celebrates the resort as actively engaging with customers … which is exactly what we have experienced thus far in booking our group.

Sundial offers exclusive luxury accommodations with condominium style suites – 1 and 2 bedroom unit offerings with King, Queen or Twin Beds, full bath, equipped kitchens, and living/dining areas. Access to many resort amenities including free Wi-Fi, paddleboards or kayaks, fitness center, bicycles for all ages, Tennis Court access, beach chairs and umbrellas, heated pools and free parking are all included. Come, relax and practice in a one-bedroom suite with breathtaking garden or waterfront views and inclusive resort amenities.

During the first week, September 12 – 16, 2022, Jorma will lead a Songwriting Workshop. In the course of the week, participants will find themselves writing a number of songs – during his last Songwriting session, the class participants wrote a combined total of over 40 songs. Be prepared to do some writing! During the second week, September 19 – 23, 2022, Jorma takes his students on a musical adventure of a lifetime exploring songs he rarely teaches from his solo and Hot Tuna songbook.

Jorma Kaukonen – Songwriting

All Levels

This will be an extremely hands on session. In the course of the week, participants will find themselves writing a number of songs. We will be demystifying the creative process and hopefully opening the door to where each student will write songs without being intimidated by the process. I have always felt that music is a great way to dialogue. The really good songs are songs that when you hear it…there’s just something about it that touches your heart, and you don’t know why. I will mentor each of my students on how to keep their heart and ears open always listening for the story that needs to be told.

*This class requires that all students have fundamental guitar skills and a guitar.

This workshop is currently full. Please fill out an application to be added to the wait list. No deposit required.

September 19 – 23, 2022

Jorma Kaukonen – “Still Got The Blues”

Level 3

Still got the blues… and you will too if you join us for this class. I’m going back to the blues well. It’s a deep well that set me on fire as a young musician. From Muddy Waters to Jesse Fuller, I was inspired to find my own voice, which I did with the help of my old Gibson. Drawing from a lifetime of blues excursions, I will take you back to that place and break down some of my most treasured blues songs. Though this is a level 3 fingerstyle class, we will be addressing advanced technique and execution in addition to, “just learning the songs.” If you have taken one of my level 2 classes in the past and are ready to step up your game, this would be a great class to consider.

This workshop is currently full. Please fill out an application to be added to the wait list. No deposit required.

Sanibel Island Attractions

JN “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge: The refuge is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. It is world famous for its spectacular migratory bird populations. The refuge consists of over 6,400 acres of mangrove forest, submerged seagrass beds, cordgrass marshes, and West Indian hardwood hammocks. The refuge was created to safeguard and enhance the pristine wildlife habitat of Sanibel Island, to protect endangered and threatened species, and to provide feeding, nesting, and roosting areas for migratory birds. Today, the refuge provides important habitat to over 245 species of birds.

The Baileys-Matthews National Shell Museum: The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel Island is the only museum in the United States that is solely devoted to shells and the mollusks that make them. Ours is a natural history museum that exhibits beautiful shells from around the globe. Yes, there’s science (and a lot of it!) and we also cover many cultural, historical and culinary facets of shells.

Sanibel Island Lighthouse: This Sanibel Island Lighthouse is one of the best areas to visit on Sanibel. Located on the East end of the island, it encompasses the entire tip of the island . . . from catching fish, finding some great shells, seeing a dolphin or two, observing ospreys and pelicans feeding or just general sunning on the beach this is the spot!

Clinic for Wildlife Rehabilitation: a teaching hospital and visitor education center dedicated to saving wildlife through state-of-the-art veterinary care, research, education and conservation medicine. CROW’s Visitor Education Center (VEC) offers behind-the-scenes views into CROW’s animal care through live camera feeds, interactive displays and daily presentations by students, staff and volunteers.
