Workshops
We are offering two separate weeks
for you to choose from:
During the first week, February 5 – 9, 2024 – Jorma will lead a Songwriting Workshop. In the course of the week, participants will find themselves writing a number of songs. Be prepared to do some writing!
During the second week, February 12 – 16, 2024 – Students will be focusing on chasing melody as opposed to abstract patterns. The workshop will further develop these skills, and use songs as vehicles for teaching licks, runs, and other embellishments in various keys. David Wolff will be Jorma’s Teaching Assistant for this session.
February 5 – 9, 2024
Songwriting – SOLD OUT
This will be an extremely hands on session. In the course of the week, participants will find themselves writing a number of songs. We will be demystifying the creative process and hopefully opening the door to where each student will write songs without being intimidated by the process. I have always felt that music is a great way to dialogue. The really good songs are songs that when you hear it…there’s just something about it that touches your heart, and you don’t know why. I will mentor each of my students on how to keep their heart and ears open always listening for the story that needs to be told.
*This class requires that all students have fundamental guitar skills and a guitar.
This workshop is currently full. Please fill out an application to be added to the wait list. No deposit required.
February 12 – 16, 2024
Level 3
Students should have thumb control whether an alternating thumb is required or not and be comfortable with chord inversions as necessary.
We will be focusing on chasing melody as opposed to abstract patterns. The workshop will further develop these skills, and use songs as vehicles for teaching licks, runs, and other embellishments in various keys. I will break down songs so your skill level should be such that you can move at a brisk pace. A list of songs that we’ll attempt to cover will come to the student via email one week prior to the scheduled class. David Wolff will be Jorma’s Teaching Assistant for this session.
