In addition, Jorma will hold a private concert for the students during the weekend.

Explore the idyllic island of Martha’s Vineyard and enjoy the intricacies of this great music!

We are offering two separate weekends for you to choose from:

May 31 – June 2, 2024

**This workshop is currently full. Please fill out an application to be added to the wait list. No deposit required.

Level 2/3

Jorma and David will be choosing songs for this three-day workshop from the Hot Tuna/Jorma/Jefferson Airplane well. You should have knowledge of first position chords and be skilled with basic right-hand techniques; simple fingerpicking including arpeggios, with alternating thumb, and basic familiarity with hammering on, pulling off, and sliding on strings. The class will expand on these techniques and extend from patterns into melodic lines while emphasizing the liberation of the thumb, thus providing a steady alternating bass line. The material will be treated in a sophisticated way, but with more individualized instruction opportunities and at a pace commensurate with the skill level of this workshop. Don’t let this description deter you from signing up if you feel you might not be up to speed. We can get you up to speed with supplementary lessons from Breakdownway.com. The goal here is to perfect your playing while still having a good time. No pressure!

June 7 – 9, 2024

**This workshop is currently full. Please fill out an application to be added to the wait list. No deposit required.

Level 3/4

Jorma and David are planning a hearty three-day workshop with total emphasis on acoustic fingerstyle playing. Participants should be proficient with thumb independence with alternating thumb patterns accompanied by melodic lines, experience with songs that depart from pattern fingerpicking, and acquaintance with chord inversions in several positions up the neck. The focus will be on bringing pieces to performance level in terms of groove, tone, texture, and creativity. Their goal with this workshop is to further develop your skills and use songs as vehicles for teaching licks, riffs, runs, and embellishments in various keys. Songs will be broken down, but assume a level of skill permitting a brisk pace. If you are seeking a challenge via in-depth techniques such as interpretations, arranging, developing solos, improvising, and playing together then this class is for you.
